A STUDY OF ELECTIVE SURGERY CANCELLATIONS IN A TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL IN INDIA

ABSTRACT

Elective surgery not performed on the scheduled day is referred as elective surgical case cancellation. Cancellation of elective surgeries impact the healthcare organization as well as the patient. This study is an observational study conducted in a 250 bedded tertiary care hospital for a period of one year from august 2022 to august 2023, to identify the reasons for the cancellation of elective surgeries. Results of the study showed 78% of surgery cancellation were related to patient related issues and 22% due to facility related issues. Most of the reasons were avoidable. Outcome of this study is to recommend strategies to reduce OT cancellation for organization
